NY – Pitcher for the Chicago White Sox Mike Clevinger is the subject of a Major League Baseball investigation due to an allegation of domestic violence.
Olivia Finestead revealed the accusations on Tuesday, through a post on Instagram. The 32-year-old right-hander, who has been in the league for six years, agreed to sign a one-year, $12 million free agent deal on Dec. 4.
“MLB opened an investigation after learning of the allegations,” the team said in a statement. “The White Sox were not aware of the allegations or the investigation when they signed it. The White Sox will not comment further until they reach a conclusion in MLB’s investigative process.”
Sam Levinson, one of Clevinger’s agents, did not respond to a request for comment.
Finestead identified herself as the mother of Clevinger’s son and said Clevinger has two other children with other women. He posted images of marks on his body, along with a comment denouncing that the injuries occurred as a result of an assault.
“He threw an iPad at me when I was pregnant”said the woman, who added: “I finally left when he strangled me.”
“Mike Clevinger, you really deserve hell, I kept quiet for almost a year and you continue to discreetly abuse the child,” says the text, and ensures that Clevinger “spit on him” to the baby.
The Athletic reported that Finestead had said he notified MLB of his allegations last summer.
The Associated Press usually does not identify victims of domestic violence or sexual assault unless they agree to be named or speak publicly about their allegations as Finestead did.
Clevinger is 51-30 with a 3.39 ERA with Cleveland (2016-20) and San Diego (2021-22). He went 0-1 in two starts for the Padres in the postseason.
Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer was suspended two seasons by MLB in April under MLB’s domestic violence policies following an investigation that began in July of last year. An arbitration appeal reduced the suspension to 194 games last month and the Dodgers released the Cy Young Award winner.
The suspension cost Bauer more than $37 million of his $102 million, three-year contract that ended in the 2023 season.
