Hermosillo, Sonora.- The inhabitants of the city of Hermosillo were surprised this Friday night by a rain that was accompanied by the hail fall and thunderstorms.

The Sonoran authorities have not reported people injured by the hailstorm at the close of this edition. However, numerous users of social networks shared images of the meteorological phenomenon.

It was in the neighborhoods of Pueblitos, Stanza Torralba, and other areas in the north of the Sonoran capital where the hail of considerable size was reported.

In this regard, the National Water Commission (Conagua) forecast heavy rains (from 25 to 50 millimeters) for the city of Hermosillo.

The rainfall could be accompanied by electric shocks, strong winds and possible hailstorms, and cause landslides, increased levels of rivers and streams, overflows and floods in regions of the aforementioned states,” Conagua said.

For its part, Civil Protection of Sonora explained on its social networks that hail “forms when drops of water are transported upwards in an electrical storm. Updrafts carry them to parts of the atmosphere where the air is cold enough to freeze the droplets.”
