The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced this Friday a unanimous agreement with the private sector to maintain the prices of basic products and combat inflation, which will materialize in a plan that will be presented on October 3.

“It was achieved unanimous agreement to maintain prices without increases in basic products, food, we reached that agreement and others, the important thing is that everyone agreed to help”, said the president during his morning press conference.

López Obrador has affirmed that this agreement was reached in a meeting he held last Wednesday with commodity businessmen.

“It is not price control, that is, an agreement is going to be reached, saying: this basket of 24 productsand if possible it will be expanded, it will cost so much and so much per product, because producers, distributors, industrialists, the most important in distribution, participated,” he explained.

The idea, he pointed out, is reinforce the anti-inflationary planwhich all the entrepreneurs gathered (from Walmart, Chedraui or Soriana supermarkets) promised to support.

“It is done for the country, because this country deserves everything, our people deserve everything, so they have a very good plan. We hope (to present the plan) for Monday the 3rd, because not only is this, but there are other measures, but we are going to stop inflation because it affects us all”, he pointed out.

In the meantime, he has stated that the federal government will continue to control energy prices so that the production, distribution and marketing chains do not have more pressure.

Yesterday it became known that annual inflation in Mexico reached 8.76% in the first half of Septemberthe highest figure since 2000.

The figures released reinforce the probability of another increase in interest rates when the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) holds its next monetary policy meeting next week, whose goal is to keep the price rise at 3% per year.
