Jorge Fons, director of “El alley of miracles” dies

The world of cinema is, again, mourningafter the death of the Mexican director, screenwriter and actor George Fons.

The Ministry of Culture confirmed the death of Fons, who in his career left memorable films such as “The masons” Y “The Alley of Miracles”.

The creator was 83 years old and will be remembered, among other things, for having won the Silver Bear in Berlin precisely because of “Los albañiles”, an iconic 1976 film, based on the work of the same name by Vicente Lenero.

This was the trajectory of Jorge Fons

Fons, who was born in Tuxpan, Veracruzwas part of the first generation of the University Center for Cinematographic Studies (CUEC), of the UNAM.

In 1968directed his first work, an episode of the film “Trampas de amor” called “The surprise”.

The UNAM Film Library highlights that Fons began his career, also, in the theater, being a student of Seki HealthyJose Ibanez and Enrique Ruelas.

Among the director’s works, they remain in the collective memory of seasoned movie buffs and lovers of the big screen:

  • “The quelite” (1969)
  • “You, me, us” (1972)
  • “The Puppies” (1973)
  • “Faith, Hope and Charity” (1974)

After having won the Silver Bear in BerlinFons directed “Rojo Amanecer” (1989), a film that earned him the Ariel for best address, and the “Alley of Miracles” (1994) with Salma Hayek as one of the protagonists.
